My dog wouldn't stop barking at the wall... I wish I had listened.

The dog’s claws tore through the last layer of lathe and plaster with a sickening, wet crunch. As the chunk of wall gave way, a cloud of stale, gray dust erupted into the room, choking the air. Claire covered her mouth, her eyes streaming, while Daniel grabbed his flashlight, his hands shaking so violently he almost dropped it.

The light beam cut through the darkness of the hole, and they both stopped breathing.

It wasn't a ghost. It wasn't a monster. It was a person.

Tucked into the narrow, hollowed-out space between the studs was a man, curled into a fetal position, wearing tattered clothes that looked decades out of date. Beside him lay a small, makeshift desk, a pile of notebooks, and a series of peepholes drilled through the bedroom wall, perfectly positioned to watch their bed.
