THE BOY WITH THE BURDEN: THE TRUTH IN THE VAULT

THE BOY WITH THE BURDEN: THE TRUTH IN THE VAULT (Part 2)

The bank, usually a sterile sanctuary of order, now felt like the center of a gathering storm. The teller, Sarah, stared at the folded slip of paper as if it were a live grenade. The ink was frantic, the handwriting jagged and rushed, a desperate scrawl that didn't belong in a professional institution.

She read the words twice, her pulse thundering in her ears: "They aren't looking for the money. They are looking for the ledger hidden in the spine of the blue bag. If the boy is still breathing, run. They already know I'm gone."

Sarah looked up, her gaze locking with the boy’s. His eyes, a shade of grey that seemed far too old for his face, didn't hold the confusion of a child; they held the weary resignation of a survivor.
