THE CORPORATE DEATH SENTENCE

The ballroom, which had been vibrating with mean-spirited laughter just seconds ago, was now tomb-quiet. The groom, a man who had spent his entire life climbing the corporate ladder, looked like he was about to faint. He stumbled back, his expensive tuxedo suddenly feeling like a straitjacket. He had spent years bragging about his connection to the "Chairman" of the city’s largest conglomerate, the man who held the keys to his future. He had never imagined the man would be standing in the doorway of his own wedding.

The "beggar" husband—dressed in a simple, well-worn coat that masked a physique of quiet, lethal power—walked slowly toward the stage. Each step he took seemed to vibrate through the floorboards. He didn't look at the bride; he looked at his wife, his gaze softening with a protective, burning intensity. He reached out, gently wiping the tear from her cheek.

"I told you," he said, his voice low but audible enough to reach the back of the room. "I told you that you didn't have to fear them. Their status is built on sand."
