THE COST OF CRUELTY: THE WEIGHT OF AUTHORITY

THE COST OF CRUELTY: THE WEIGHT OF AUTHORITY (Part 2)

The silence that followed the Chief’s voice was more deafening than the laughter of a moment ago. Jason Miller stood frozen, his phone still trembling in his hand. He had spent years ruling the hallways, protected by his father’s status as a high-priced defense attorney who treated the school's administration like his personal staff. But this—this was different. The man on the other end wasn't just any father; he was the Chief of Police, a man known for being untouchable, incorruptible, and now, he was rightfully enraged.

"Emily, stay exactly where you are," Chief Carter’s voice boomed, amplified by the silent courtyard. "I am already in the vehicle. My officers are two minutes out. Anyone who tries to leave that courtyard is going to be detained for interference with a police investigation."

Jason’s friends, who had been eager to film the humiliation, began to drop their phones. The realization hit them like a physical blow: they weren't just bullies anymore; they were accessories to a crime being investigated by the very department that held their futures in its hands. Brandon, one of Jason’s closest cohorts, frantically backed away, his face pale. "Jason, you said this was fine! You said her dad was just a desk jockey!"
