THE DIAMOND IN THE DUST: A ROOFTOP RECKONING

💍 THE DIAMOND IN THE DUST: A ROOFTOP RECKONING – PART 2 🥂📉

The wind whipped across the skyscraper’s roof, carrying away the scent of crushed white roses. Elena stood at the elevator doors, her red heels clicking sharply against the metal, a triumphant smirk frozen on her face. She turned back one last time, expecting to see the man—Julian—slumped in his silver wheelchair, defeated and alone.

Instead, the scene before her shattered her reality.

Julian stood tall. The rough, stained coat he’d worn to test her loyalty lay in a heap on the concrete, discarded like a snake’s old skin. Beneath it, a midnight-blue tuxedo, tailored with surgical precision, caught the dying rays of the sun. He wasn't leaning on anything; he was standing with the quiet, terrifying posture of a man who owned the very ground the building was anchored to.

Elena’s smirk dissolved. Her hand went to her throat, her fingers trembling. "Julian? You... your legs..."

"The chair was a necessity for the facade," Julian said, his voice a low, melodic tremor that echoed with more authority than a shout. "It was the only way to see who would stand by me when I was 'broken,' and who would step on me the moment the light faded."

He walked toward her. He didn't limp. Every step was deliberate, heavy with the weight of the city he controlled. He stopped inches from her, and in his hand, he held a ring—a diamond of such terrifying clarity it seemed to pulse in the twilight.

"You traded a lifetime of security for a moment of cruelty," Julian continued, his eyes devoid of the warmth she had once manipulated. "You looked at the 'loser' in the chair and saw an obstacle. You failed to realize that the person in the chair was the same person who signed the checks for your father’s failing company last month."

Elena scrambled backward, her poise utterly obliterated. "Julian, please. I didn't know! If I had known who you were—"
