THE MARK OF THE UNKNOWN: THE LANGUAGE OF THE STARS

THE MARK OF THE UNKNOWN: THE LANGUAGE OF THE STARS (Part 2)

The hospital, a bastion of steel, glass, and scientific logic, seemed to shrink under the pressure of a phenomenon that defied physics. Dr. Aris Thorne, accustomed to treating fractures and viral infections, backed away until he hit the emergency room wall. His hands, which just minutes earlier had been gloved and ready for surgery, were now shaking with uncontrollable violence.

"Doctor, what is happening?" the mother asked, her eyes bloodshot. "Please, tell me what is wrong with my son!"

Thorne didn't answer. He couldn't. His eyes were fixed on the boy's forearm. The marks weren't pigmentation or burns; they were like veins of liquid light that pulsed in rhythm with the child's heartbeat. Most unsettling wasn't the glow, but the fact that, as he stared at them, Thorne began to hear a low-frequency hum in his own head—a sound that whispered a series of mathematical coordinates.

"This isn't a tumor," Thorne finally whispered, his voice sounding as if it came from another world. "Ma'am, where was your son yesterday? Where exactly did you go?"
