THE RETURN TO THE VALLEY: THE SHADOW THAT NEVER FADES

THE RETURN TO THE VALLEY: THE SHADOW THAT NEVER FADES (Part 2)

The silence that followed the man’s question was a wall of glass about to shatter. The woman, her hand trembling as she stroked the little boy's hair, could not articulate a word; the horror she felt was not just because of the stranger's presence, but because of what the boy represented. The man, who for years had been a specter in her nightmares, was now standing before her, embodied in a multi-thousand-dollar suit, clashing brutally with the poverty of the valley.

"You have no right to be here," she managed to whisper, her voice cracked but containing an unexpected ferocity. "You left, you left us with nothing. You said that if you ever came back, it would be to destroy whatever little I managed to salvage."

The man, named Julian, took another step forward. His gaze was not on the woman, but on the boy, whose face was a perfect mirror of his own features from a decade ago. "I didn't come to destroy anything, Elena. I came because blood debts don't expire. I found out that he... that you were still alive."

The little boy, ignoring the electric tension that permeated the air, looked up at Julian. He didn't feel fear; he felt a magnetic curiosity. "Mom, is he the man from the photos? The one with the star tattoo on his hand?"
