THE UNBIDDEN TRUTH

THE UNBIDDEN TRUTH (Part 2)

The darkness wasn't just a loss of light; it was an abrupt, stifling vacuum. In that void, the only sound was the frantic rustling of silk, the heavy thud of a chair being overturned, and the jagged, shallow breathing of Adrian. For a heartbeat, the grand hall—once filled with the scent of lilies and expensive perfume—felt like a tomb.

When the emergency lights flickered to life, bathing the room in an eerie, pulsating crimson, the tableau of perfection was gone. Adrian was hunched over the altar, his tuxedo jacket torn at the shoulder, his hands gripped so tightly onto the wood that his knuckles were white. Camila stood several feet back, her bridal veil discarded on the floor, her eyes wide with a dawning, terrifying realization as she watched her husband.

Diego remained exactly where he was. He hadn't flinched when the lights went out, nor had he moved when security tried to rush him. He stood like a sentinel, the crumpled piece of paper still held between his small, dirt-stained fingers.

"Read it," Diego repeated, his voice devoid of a child’s tremor. It was the voice of someone who had carried this secret across miles of hardship, someone who had nothing left to lose.

Adrian surged forward, his face a mask of primal desperation. "I told you, it’s a forgery! A lie!" He lunged for the paper, but Camila was faster. She stepped between them, her hand snapping out to snatch the note from the boy.
