Chapter 2: The Board's Decision

Chapter 2: The Board's Decision
The convoy carried Elena straight to the headquarters of Ward Global Corporation.
By the time she arrived, every member of the board was already seated around the long walnut conference table.
No one looked surprised to see her.
They had known the truth for years.
Only Daniel had never cared enough to ask why every major decision required Elena's quiet approval.
Her chief legal officer placed a folder before the directors.
"The ownership transfer has been completed."
"The temporary executive authority granted to Daniel Carter has been revoked."
The chairman nodded.
"Then we may proceed."
At that exact moment, Daniel burst into the conference room, his tie crooked and his face pale.
"You can't do this!"
The chairman looked at him calmly.
"Mr. Carter, your appointment as Chief Executive Officer existed solely because the majority shareholder authorized it."
Daniel turned desperately toward Elena.
"You knew this all along."
"Yes."
"You let me believe I built everything."
Elena's voice remained steady.
"I let you believe in yourself."
She paused.
"You chose to believe you no longer needed me."
The board secretary slid a document across the table.
"Your resignation has been accepted."
Daniel stared at the paper.
He had spent years acting as though the company belonged to him.
In reality, he had only been trusted to lead it.

Trust, once broken, was not easily restored.
Without another word, he signed and quietly walked out of the room.
