THE MESS HALL RECKONING: THE AUDIT

THE MESS HALL RECKONING: THE AUDIT (Part 2)

The silence that blanketed the mess hall was heavier than the metal tables themselves. Zarin Cole, the man who had treated the base like his personal fiefdom for months, struggled to push himself up from the concrete. His ego was more wounded than his body; the "parasite" he had tried to crush had dismantled him in less than four seconds. He looked around for the usual cheers from his inner circle, but all he found were wide, terrified eyes. His fear-based control had evaporated the moment Sarah’s foot struck the floor.

Sarah didn't move to finish him. She didn't need to. She stood perfectly still, a statue of tactical discipline, waiting for the inevitable.

The heavy steel doors at the back of the mess hall hissed open. The Base Commander stepped in, his expression not of anger, but of cold, calculated satisfaction. Behind him followed two members of the Military Police. The hall was so quiet that the click of the Commander’s boots sounded like artillery fire.
