THE PRINCESS IN DISGUISE: THE PRICE OF ARROGANCE

The sound of a dropped glass shattered the silence like a gunshot. The crystal shards skittered across the marble floor, mirroring the fractured ego of Julian, the man who had been seconds away from striking the maid. He stood paralyzed, his hand still suspended in the air, his face transitioning from a mask of spoiled entitlement to a complexion of ghostly terror.

"Princess... Alina?" Julian stammered, the name feeling like a curse on his tongue.

The maid—Princess Alina—didn't flinch. The trembling in her hands had ceased, replaced by a cold, regal stillness. She didn't look at Julian; she looked through him, as if he were nothing more than a smudge on the ballroom’s pristine aesthetic.

The man who had intervened was none other than Chancellor Vane, the kingdom’s most formidable power broker. He stood beside Alina, his posture rigid, his eyes sweeping the room with a gaze that promised total destruction.

"Julian of the House of Thorne," Vane’s voice thundered, echoing against the gilded walls. "You were invited here to prove your worthiness to the Royal Court. Instead, you have chosen to reveal the rot within your character."

The ballroom was a sea of panicked murmurs. The elite, who only moments ago had been laughing at Julian’s "joke," were now frantically rearranging their faces into expressions of loyalty to the Crown.

Alina finally moved. She smoothed her apron—a simple, rough-spun garment that looked jarring against the backdrop of silk gowns and tailored tuxedos. She walked toward Julian, her step light yet heavy with authority. She stopped inches from him, the height difference disappearing under the sheer weight of her presence.

"You wanted to see me humble, Julian?" Alina’s voice was soft, melodic, and terrifyingly calm. "You spent the last month trying to sabotage my father's trade agreements because you thought I was a 'nobody'—a maid you could intimidate into quitting her job. You thought that by breaking the staff, you could break the monarchy."

Julian’s knees buckled. "Your Highness, I... I had no idea. It was a misunderstanding! I thought... I thought you were just a server!"

"And that," Alina replied, her eyes narrowing into icy daggers, "is exactly why you are unfit to walk these halls."
